User friendly operation for an innovative mobile diagnostics lab
ROLE
Lead UX and UI designer
STORY UNDER CONSTRUCTION
CHALLENGE
Evolve a rudimentary development interface to a more realistically viable UI to ensure continued project funding from the NIH Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) initiative.
APPROACH
I dug in with the client product development team and Delve software engineers to craft a user-centered, contextually appropriate user interface for controlling RapidX’s innovative mobile lab.
DEVELOPMENT INTERFACE
The development interface ran only in a mouse-pointer laptop screen context. The lab UI would run in a larger, portrait-oriented touchscreen, akin to a kiosk.
The ad-hoc creation of the interface by software development engineers offered generous opportunity for user-centered design improvements.
Impact
VISION
Everyone involved—from the client to the Delve project team—could start to envision the transformation from the dev interface to a production interface.
USER-CENTERED DESIGN
User-centered thinking was injected in the design process, transforming the ultimate usability of the product.
VIABILITY
Flambeau RapidX was able to demonstrate the required progress to pursue continued funding from the NIH Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) initiative.
